Biography

Carmen Tapio was appointed to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Omaha Branch Board in 2021 and has been the Branch chair since 2024.

Mrs. Tapio is a transformative leader and builder of all things business, people, and community. She is the owner, president and chief executive officer of North End Teleservices, LLC—the largest African-American-owned business in the state and several other brands. Under her leadership, North End Teleservices has soared onto the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies for the past four years and has injected over $250 million dollars into Nebraska’s economy.

Her relentless commitment to creating jobs and changing lives has led her to establish Forever North Real Estate Company, another history-making enterprise that is making the largest private investment in North Omaha. She is also the founder of Nebraska Black Women United, an 800-strong, purpose-driven organization empowering black women across the state and beyond. Working in and alongside the community, Mrs. Tapio is reimagining North Omaha and setting it on a promising path, aligned with the visionary promise of a bustling community where its members can work, live, and play.

Mrs. Tapio is the 2023 Inspire Awards Woman of the Year, and former USA Today Woman of the Year Nebraska Honoree. She was inducted into the 2022 Omaha Business Hall of Fame and is on Forbes Next 1000 List of Inspiring Entrepreneurs as well as a 2021 Enterprising Woman of the Year.

Mrs. Tapio is leading the Omaha business community as 2023 and 2024 chair of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. She also serves on a number of other boards including Werner Enterprises Board of Directors as ESG Committee chair, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Board of Trustees, is a Peter Kiewit Foundation Trustee, a University of Nebraska Foundation Trustee, CHI Immanuel Community board member, Omaha Public Schools Superintendent Advisory Committee member.
