Earnings declined during the third quarter for banks over $10B at the national level, while remaining relatively flat for banks under $10B and most Tenth District banks. Total deposit growth exceeded total loan growth during the quarter and year-over-year, both at all U.S. banks and Tenth District banks. This is a reversal of the trend over the past few quarters of loan growth surpassing deposit growth. Loans as a percentage of deposits and wholesale funding have remained stable at banks nationally and in the District.
